Job Scams Surge as Vietnam’s Digital Hiring Ecosystem Grows
According to the survey, 69% of respondents encountered fraudulent job offers, with nearly half being targeted multiple times. This growing issue mirrors the rapid expansion of Vietnam’s digital economy, which is set to contribute over 20% to GDP by 2025. As more people turn to digital platforms—such as job portals, social networks, and messaging apps—these spaces are becoming hotspots for scams. Notably, the Ministry of Public Security reported US$744 million in scam-related losses in 2024, with job fraud becoming one of the fastest-rising concerns.
Job Seekers Call for Stronger Protections and Trust Measures
Repeated encounters with scams are damaging public trust. The survey found that 78% of job seekers now distrust recruitment platforms and channels. Job seekers identified major scam warning signs, including:
- Upfront payment requests
- Unrealistic salary and benefit offers
- Requests for personal or banking details
- Listings without official company information
Despite high awareness, scams persist, especially on unregulated platforms, signaling an urgent need for better standards and safety controls.
Reeracoen Vietnam Pushes for Verified and Transparent Hiring
To combat these issues, Reeracoen Vietnam urges collaboration between employers, platforms, and recruitment agencies. Survey participants highlighted strong solutions, such as:
- Verified employer badges on job sites
- Stricter ad screening using AI and human oversight
- Real-time scam reporting tools
- Collaboration between platforms and government authorities
Most job seekers agree that basic protections—like scam detection and employer verification—should be standard features and freely accessible. While 67% would consider paying for premium anti-scam features, many believe building trust requires making these measures available for everyone.
