STL, known for its advanced connectivity solutions, has signed an MoU with QNu Labs, India’s pioneering end-to-end quantum cybersecurity company incubated at IIT Madras. Their goal is to strengthen R&D in quantum-secure communications, combining STL’s expertise in optical fibre technology with QNu’s innovation in quantum key distribution (QKD) and quantum cryptography. This move comes as the Indian quantum communication sector is projected to reach about USD $139.8 million by 2030.

Quantum Key Distribution Achieves Breakthrough Over Optical Fibre

A significant highlight of the collaboration is the successful demonstration of QNu Labs’ QKD system over STL’s 4-core multi-core fibre (MCF). This system achieved secure cryptographic key exchange across 170 km of optical fibre, even while handling 800 Gbps of classical data transmission. Another trial accomplished secure key exchange over 150 km with an impressive 1.8 Tbps of classical traffic. Such breakthroughs mark a major leap toward integrating quantum security with high-capacity optical networks.

With both companies focused on innovation, the partnership will accelerate quantum-secure network research and development. STL’s on-field deployment of multi-core fibre technology, already validated in India’s Department of Telecommunications’ Advanced Optical Communications Test Bed, will now gain an additional layer of quantum security. Together, STL and QNu Labs aim to develop scalable, future-ready architectures for secure communications—strengthening India’s leadership in global quantum networks. Their joint goal is not only to cater to India’s digital sovereignty but also to set global benchmarks.
