Pioneering Leap in Secure 5G SA Roaming Connectivity

In a pioneering move, market leaders TOMIA and Cumucore have successfully integrated their SEPPs (Security Edge Protection Proxy), setting the stage for secure 5G Standalone (SA) roaming connectivity. This achievement, the first of its kind, signals the dawn of a new era in 5G SA roaming and related services.

Successful Integration for 5G SA Roaming Connectivity

The milestone has been achieved by leveraging TOMIA’s expertise in roaming optimization, and Cumucore’s extensive connectivity solutions. This partnership has resulted in the successful test of new built-in 5G security mechanisms across various roaming scenarios. Particularly notable is the successful completion of a Proof of Concept (PoC) to validate interoperability of SEPP, keeping with the 3GPP guidelines.

Proof of Concept Validates SEPP Interoperability

Both TOMIA and Cumucore conducted a PoC to prove their SEPP interoperability based on existing 3GPP guidelines. This also included the functionality testing of the new 5G security mechanisms through fully virtualized 5G packet core networks. The results of these tests have cemented their position in the industry and opened new possibilities for the development of roaming services.

Significant Impact on the Roaming Industry

Ilana Tidhar, TOMIA’s Network Products Director, commented on the significance of this achievement, stating that not only does the collaboration ensure secure communications but also adds value to the roaming industry at large. Mika Skarp, Senior Product Manager at Cumucore, also shared his optimism, stating that the successful results are of immense benefit to enterprise customers, enabling crucial mobility between public and private networks, particularly in verticals such as logistics and supply chains.

To conclude, this partnership between TOMIA and Cumucore brings secure 5G SA roaming connectivity one step closer to reality. The successful integration of their respective SEPPs, alongside the successful PoC, serves as a beacon for secure communications and valuable roaming services development. This breakthrough paves the way for an exciting future in the industry, offering enhanced quality of service for both private networks and the mobile operator community.
