Echo Cable Liaison Boosts Trans-Pacific Connectivity

In a significant development in the realm of global connectivity, Telstra International, the global division of a top telecommunications and technology company, and Trans Pacific Networks (TPN) have entered into a strategic partnership. This collaboration marks the creation of the Echo cable, the first subsea cable directly connecting the US with Singapore, thus establishing a new route and bolstering vital connectivity in the Trans-Pacific region.

Telstra International and TPN inaugurate Echo Cable

Known for its unique express route, the Echo cable connects California, Jakarta, Singapore, and Guam, creating a fresh path and providing a low-latency, high-speed, and resilient network infrastructure. This connection links the South Asian region with the US. The first segments of the Echo cable (Guam – US) are set to launch in mid-2024, with the remainder slated for completion in 2025. Telstra will join forces with TPN to ensure secure, long-term stability on an efficient route.

The Impact of Echo Cable on Connectivity

Undoubtedly, the demand for bandwidth in the Trans-Pacific is skyrocketing, with predictions indicating a 39% increase year-on-year until 2029. With the advent of emerging technologies such as AI, IoT, and cloud computing, reliable and low latency connectivity has become critical to support thriving businesses and consumers’ needs. The Echo subsea cable system is poised to become an essential component of the Indo-Pacific’s digital framework, augmenting networks, boosting capacity, and lowering internet costs in the region.

Future Expectations and Expansion Plans

Telstra International’s CEO, Roary Stasko, expresses excitement as he outlines the company’s growth plans in international digital infrastructure. Their investment in subsea fibre capacity on unique, diverse routes will enhance connectivity from Asia to the US. The Echo cable’s system also enables other countries to leverage its robust architecture. Recently, they augmented 3Tbps of capacity through the SEA-US cable, connecting the US mainland, Hawaii, Guam, and the Philippines, which bolsters their existing Trans-Pacific cables like AAG, UNITY, FASTER, NCP, and JUPITER.

In conclusion, the enlistment of the Echo cable is a giant stride towards transforming global connectivity. This joint venture between Telstra International and TPN will not only enhance the connectivity between Asia and the US but also respond to the burgeoning demand for bandwidth. Clearly, the creation of this new path will echo milestone achievements in the telecommunications and technology spheres.
