At FIX 2024, Kumyang Co., Ltd. presented its KY-4695 cylindrical battery along with an in-depth look at its complete battery value chain, capturing the interest of global automotive and tech leaders. Recognized at the FIX Media Awards for its innovation, Kumyang is positioning itself as a leader in high-performance and efficient battery solutions, particularly for the rapidly evolving EV market.
KY-4695: A Next-Gen Battery for Electric Vehicles
Kumyang’s KY-4695 stands out with its impressive 290.2 Wh/kg energy density, which significantly surpasses Tesla’s 4680 battery at 243.4 Wh/kg. The KY-4695 also boasts a high capacity of 34.0 Ah, positioning it as an ideal solution for modern electric vehicles requiring enhanced energy efficiency and extended range. This design innovation allows a reduction in the number of cells needed per battery pack: a 75 kWh battery now requires only 600 KY-4695 cells, versus 867 Tesla cells—resulting in a 31% decrease in cell count.
Equipped with 600 cells, the KY-4695 offers a range of up to 600 km on a single charge, achieving an efficiency of 8 km per kWh. During the expo, Kumyang demonstrated the battery’s capabilities within a four-wheel-drive EV, drawing considerable attention from global automakers eager to integrate advanced battery solutions.
Comprehensive Battery Value Chain Showcased
Beyond the KY-4695, Kumyang took the opportunity to showcase its entire battery value chain at FIX 2024. The company unveiled a scaled model of its upcoming Gijang Dream Factory 2, a cutting-edge facility under construction that aims to meet the surging demand for energy storage solutions. This factory, dedicated to high-quality battery production, highlights Kumyang’s vertical integration strategy—spanning raw material extraction, processing, and cell manufacturing.
Visitors also had the chance to experience Kumyang’s extensive MonLa mine in Mongolia through an immersive 3D VR presentation. This virtual tour illustrated Kumyang’s resource extraction and processing, key elements in maintaining consistent quality and supply chain reliability.
Expanding Global Reach through Strategic Partnerships
Kumyang’s strategy extends beyond Korea. The company recently signed a six-year, 2.3 trillion KRW distribution agreement with the U.S.-based company Nanotech for its 2170 cylindrical battery. This agreement strengthens Kumyang’s international presence and underscores its appeal to global corporations seeking reliable, cutting-edge battery technologies.
A Kumyang representative remarked at the event: “FIX 2024 has offered an excellent platform to showcase our advanced technology and strengthen our global reach.” The expo provided Kumyang with a valuable opportunity to foster new partnerships and to further solidify its standing in the sustainable mobility sector.
