Harmonic Boosts FTTH Deployment with New Tech

In a significant move to accelerate Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) deployments, Harmonic has unveiled its latest Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) solutions. By integrating cutting-edge technology like the domestically manufactured Fin remote OLT (R-OLT), Harmonic aids broadband operators in swiftly expanding high-speed internet service. This initiative not only supports rural and underserved areas but also streamlines the deployment process via existing network infrastructures.

Harmonic Enhances FTTH with BEAD Solutions

Harmonic’s new BEAD offerings significantly optimize FTTH deployments. Dan Gledhill, Senior Vice President of Fiber Broadband at Harmonic, expressed the company’s commitment to enhancing internet accessibility through these solutions. The integration of new and existing network gears facilitates operators in avoiding extensive mid-mile construction, thereby emphasizing last-mile connectivity directly to subscribers’ homes. This approach markedly reduces costs and deployment timelines while extending services into rural areas.

Expanding Reach with Fin R-OLT Module

The innovative Fin 10G R-OLT SFP+ is at the heart of Harmonic’s strategy to extend the existing networks’ reach up to 20 kilometers. Compatible with Harmonic’s array of rack-mounted switches and Jetty remote switches, the Fin module enables operators to daisy chain nodes efficiently. This capability aids in expanding service areas without the need for additional infrastructure, thus leveraging and optimizing existing fiber assets.

Future Plans and BABA Certification Process

Harmonic is on track to obtain the BEAD and Build America, Buy America (BABA) certifications for its Fin R-OLT module by year’s end, with other key fiber products set for certification in 2025. This development is crucial as it underscores Harmonic’s adherence to U.S. manufacturing standards, a pivotal aspect of governmental infrastructure projects. Achieving these certifications will enable Harmonic to further solidify its position as a leader in broadband technology solutions.

In a strategic push to enhance global connectivity, Harmonic is set to revolutionize how broadband services are deployed and expanded. By emphasizing efficient, scalable solutions like the BEAD program and securing pertinent certifications, Harmonic aims to sustain its leadership in the delivery of high-speed internet across diverse landscapes. Through such innovations, Harmonic continues to play an integral role in bridging connectivity gaps and fostering community development.
