Harmonic has announced the release of its SeaStar Optical Node, designed to transform how broadband is delivered to lower-density, brownfield MDUs. This new solution promises to simplify upgrades and offer efficient, high-speed services without disruptive infrastructure changes.

How SeaStar Optical Node Upgrades MDU Broadband Connectivity

The SeaStar Optical Node stands out by addressing a long-standing challenge for broadband operators: delivering multigigabit connectivity to MDUs quickly and cost-effectively. Instead of requiring new wiring, the node converts existing coaxial cabling into a high-speed conduit, minimizing both costs and deployment time. As a result, residents experience no service disruption during upgrades, making this solution both practical and user-friendly.

Innovative Design Simplifies Deployment for Operators

One of the most compelling aspects of the SeaStar node is its compact and low-power design. Operators can deploy up to 16 SeaStar mini nodes from a single central location, taking advantage of existing infrastructure and point-to-point fiber links. The technology supports speeds of over 8 Gbps downstream and 1.5 Gbps upstream, while eliminating common issues found with older RFoG systems, such as optical beat interference and bandwidth limitations.
